Audit or Alcohol Use Disorder Recognition Test

The Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT) was developed by the World Health Organization in 1982 as a simple method to screen and identify people at risk of alcohol problems.

The AUDIT test focuses on identifying the first signs of dangerous drinking and light dependence. It is used to detect alcohol problems encountered in the past year. It is one of the most accurate alcohol screening tests, with an effective rate of 92% in detecting dangerous or harmful drinking.

The test contains 10 multiple-choice questions about the amount and frequency of drinking, drinking behavior, and alcohol-related questions or reactions. Answers are scored on a points system; more than 8 points indicate alcohol problems.

A short test that can be used for quick screening

The AUDIT test has been found to be effective, but it is rarely used as an initial screening for alcohol use disorders in primary care settings. There are several other shorter tests that can be performed quickly in busy primary care offices or clinics.

This type of test is often used to provide screening and brief intervention services for patients whose health care providers suspect drug abuse problems.
